Lena Hirche
„Die heimliche Privatisierung des öffentlichen Raumes”, 2008
Lena Hirche’s contribution at the Rheinauhafen re-raises the question of personal needs and use of public space by offering humorous ideas for an appropriation of public space for everyone. Her interventions (...) are carefully placed hidden objects, adapting their camouflage-like appearance to the environment. They can only be uncovered by meticulous reconnaissance. Inconspicuous city furniture like electrical cubicles, traffic signs, observation cameras, advertising columns or seat stones often receive no consideration and thus, their apparently well-defined intend use is diverted and converted into a creative self-exploiting of personal needs.
