Alex Mertins
„Homeward Bound“, 2008
glass fibre, sythetic resin, curtain cloth, 160 x 160 x 30 cm
Alexander Mertins´ constructions of wire and paper allow the beholder’s eye to scan them in a linear fashion, as well as wander about them randomly, without orientation.
His structures have no purpose, they stand for themselves. However, their essence and structure give them initially a deeply sculptural quality. They only come alive in the movement of the beholder who walks around the works and subjects him/herself to the interplay of the current light conditions.
